You will sail from Sisimiut to the fishing camp located on the Sassanguit river, just on the Arctic Circle. The boat trip takes about 1,5 to 2 hours. At your arrival at the camp, you will be welcome by Leif Fontain, Greenlandic hunter and fisherman, and his team consisted of local nature guides and staff at the camp. The whole team has a solid local knowledge and knows the river and conditions in the Greenland wilderness very well, ensuring that you are in the best hands throughout the stay. Time to set up in your private and spacious heated tent in the middle of the untouched nature.
Flyfishing & exploring the wilderness
The next days will be dedicated to exploring the wilderness around the camp and discovering the many activities it offers. You have the whole area to yourself which gives you the maximum opportunity to find your very own favorite fishing spot, where all the trout are biting. You can go fly fishing for Arctic Char, sea fishing (by boat) halibut, Atlantic wolffish, salmon and cod. Between mid-july until mid-august, when the trout season is at its peak, you can catch an amazing glimpse of thousands of trout jumping through cascades og water to continue their journey upriver. Depending on the period, you can also get the opportunity to take part in trap and net at the host family fishing grounds and also discover the traditional way of drying, salting and smoking the trouts. There will be plenty of time to also explore the surroundings by hiking up to the fox caves, picking angelica plants and observing the wildlife such as musk ox, reindeer, birds or simply contemplating the landscapes. On our last evening, on day 7, we enjoy a farewell dinner made of Greenlandic specialties.
